Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a cupcake tray with 12 paper cases.
In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
125 g unsalted butter, 125 g granulated sugar
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the orange zest.
2 large eggs, 1 large orange
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
150 g all-purpose flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined.
60 ml milk, 1 tsp vanilla extract
Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake cases, filling each about two-thirds full.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
Allow the cupcakes to cool in the tray for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
While the cupcakes are cooling, melt the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water or in the microwave in short bursts, stirring until smooth.
200 g milk chocolate
Once the cupcakes have cooled slightly, carefully remove them from the cases and flip them upside down.
Spoon the melted chocolate generously over each upside-down cupcake, allowing it to drizzle down the sides.
For an extra touch, grate a little additional chocolate over the warm chocolate topping just before serving.
