Place the drumsticks in a large bowl. Pat them dry with kitchen paper first. This helps the marinade stick better.
8 large chicken drumsticks
In a separate bowl, combine the olive oil, ketchup, soy sauce and honey. Stir well until smooth.
3 tbsp olive oil, 2 tbsp tomato ketchup, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp honey
Add the garlic, smoked paprika, chilli powder, black pepper, salt and lemon juice. Mix thoroughly to form a rich marinade.

Pour the marinade over the drumsticks. Turn each piece to coat it evenly. Cover the bowl and place it in the fridge.
Leave the drumsticks to marinate for at least 2 hours. For deeper flavour, leave them overnight.
Preheat the barbecue to a medium heat. If using a grill, set it to medium and line a tray with foil.
Place the drumsticks on the barbecue or under the grill. Keep space between each piece to ensure even cooking.
Cook for 30 to 35 minutes. Turn the drumsticks every 5–7 minutes. This prevents burning and helps them cook evenly.
Baste with extra marinade during cooking if desired. This adds more flavour and keeps them moist.
Check that the chicken is fully cooked. The juices should run clear, and the meat should be tender.
Remove from the heat and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
