Place the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast into a large bowl. Keep the salt and yeast separate at first. Add the warm water and olive oil, then mix to form a soft dough.
250 g strong white bread flour, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp dried yeast, 150 ml warm water, 1 tbsp olive oil
Knead the dough:
Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Knead it for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Let it rise:
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover it with a clean cloth. Leave it in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Preheat the oven:
Heat your oven to 220°C (200°C fan) or gas mark 7. Place a baking tray or pizza stone inside to heat up.
Shape the base:
Knock back the dough gently to remove air. Roll it out into a round shape, about 10–12 inches wide.
Add the sauce:
Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the base, leaving a small border around the edges.
4 tbsp pizza sauce
Add the toppings:
Sprinkle over the mozzarella cheese. Then add the mushrooms, green bell pepper, ham, and sweetcorn evenly across the pizza.
150 g mozzarella cheese, 100 g mushrooms, 1 medium green bell pepper, 100 g cooked ham, 75 g sweetcorn
Season lightly:
Sprinkle oregano and black pepper over the top if you like. Drizzle a little olive oil for extra flavour.
Transfer the pizza onto the hot tray or stone. Bake for 12–15 minutes until the crust turns golden and the cheese bubbles.
Serve and enjoy:
Remove the pizza from the oven. Let it rest for a couple of minutes.
Slice and serve warm.
Notes
Serving Suggestions:Serve with a crisp green salad or garlic bread. A cold drink pairs perfectly alongside it.Tips:Use fresh mozzarella for a softer texture.Do not overload the toppings, as this can make the base soggy.A hot oven ensures a crisp base and melted topping.
