Combine the remaining ingredients in a saucepan and heat until the sugar is dissolved-do not boil.
2/3 cup red wine, 2/3 cup sugar, 1/2 large lemon, 1 stick cinnamon, 3 whole cloves, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 whole star anise, 6 whole black peppercorns
Preheat your oven to 350F (180C)
Pour the liquid over the fruit and bake covered in the oven until the fruit is tender, 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the ripeness of the fruit.
Remove the star anise, cinnamon, cloves etc
Serve warm, chilled, or at room temperature.

Note: Makes sure you count how many star anise, cloves etc you use so you know how many to remove.Note: you can use other fruit such as apples and pears
