In a large bowl, mix together the flour, yeast, sugar and salt.
500 g strong white bread flour, 7 g dried yeast, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp salt
Add the warm water and softened butter, and stir until a soft dough forms.
300 ml warm water, 50 g unsalted butter
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, or until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp tea towel, and leave it in a warm place to rise for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air and divide it into 8 equal portions.
Shape each portion into a ball and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Ensure there’s enough space between each bun for rising.
Cover the buns with the tea towel again and let them rise for another 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until they are visibly puffy.
Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan)/400°F/Gas Mark 6.
Brush the tops of the buns with the beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds generously over each one.

Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
Transfer to a wire rack to cool before serving.
