The simple icing sugar glaze drizzled over the cupcakes/doughnuts adds a touch of sweetness and elegance, perfectly complementing their fluffy texture.
Place the icing sugar in a mixing bowl and sift it to remove any lumps.
1 1/2 cups icing sugar
Gradually add 2 tablespoons of milk or water to the sifted icing sugar. Start with 2 tablespoons and mix well. Add more liquid as needed to reach your desired consistency.
2-3 tbsp water
Stir the icing sugar and liquid together until well combined and smooth. Use a whisk or spoon for this step.
If desired, add vanilla extract to the icing for flavour. Mix well to incorporate.
3/4 tsp vanilla extract
If the icing is too thick, add a little more liquid, a teaspoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency. If it's too thin, add a little more sifted icing sugar until it thickens.
Use the icing immediately to drizzle over your cupcakes. If you're not using it right away, cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out.
Drizzle or spread the icing over your cupcakes using a spoon, spatula, or pastry bag. Allow the icing to set before serving.
Variations:
Chocolate Icing: Substitute some of the icing sugar with cocoa powder to make a chocolate-flavoured icing.
Coloured Icing: Add a few drops of food colouring to the icing to create coloured icing for decorating.
Flavoured Icing: Experiment with different flavourings such as lemon, orange, almond, or peppermint extract to customize the flavour of your icing.
