Ingredients

Plain Flour
sifted

tsp
baking powder
300
ml
Sparkling Ale
or similar
400
g
baking potatoes
peeled, cut into 2cm-thick chips
1
tsp
paprika
1
tsp
basil
fresh, chopped
1 1/2
tsp
salt
to serve
vegetable oil
to deep-fry
Instructions
Combine flour, baking powder, paprika and salt in a bowl. Make a well in the centre.
200 g Plain Flour,
1/2 tsp baking powder,
1 1/2 tsp salt,
1 tsp paprika
Gradually add beer into the well, using a whisk to stir until well combined.
300 ml Sparkling Ale
Dip chips into batter and place in a deep fryer of hot oil.
400 g baking potatoes,
vegetable oil
Cook until golden brown.
Serve with spices and tomato sauce if desired.
