Place a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the minced beef. Break the meat apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks.
500 g minced beef
Season the meat:
Sprinkle in the salt, pepper, cumin, and smoked paprika if using. Stir well so the spices coat the beef evenly. Cook for about 8–10 minutes until the meat turns brown and fully cooked.
Heat the tortillas so they soften. Place them in a dry frying pan for about 20 seconds on each side. Alternatively, warm them briefly in the microwave.
4 large flour tortillas
Prepare the fillings:
Place the shredded lettuce, guacamole, grated cheese and cooked beef into separate bowls. This makes assembly quick and easy.
2 cups lettuce, 1 cup guacamole, 1 cup cheddar cheese
Assemble the burritos:
Lay a warm tortilla flat on a plate. Spoon a generous portion of beef down the centre.
Add the toppings:
Sprinkle lettuce over the beef. Add a spoonful of guacamole. Finally, scatter grated cheese on top.
Fold the burrito:
Fold the sides of the tortilla inward. Then roll it tightly from the bottom upward to form a neat burrito.
Serve immediately:
Serve while the beef is warm and the cheese is beginning to soften.
Optional Extras:Although the dish works perfectly with five ingredients, extra toppings can be added if desired:Chopped tomatoes Sour cream Fresh coriander Sliced jalapeños Hot sauce Lime wedgesTips:Warm tortillas fold more easily and prevent cracking. Do not overfill the burritos or they will be difficult to wrap. Crisp lettuce adds freshness and balances the rich beef. Freshly grated cheese melts better than pre-shredded cheese.Serving Suggestions:These burritos pair nicely with:Tortilla chips and salsa Mexican rice Corn on the cob A simple tomato salad
