Houttuynia leaves are from a Japanese plant. They are used to flavour soups, fish, and pork dishes in Japan and throughout Southeast Asia. It has a strong flavour similar to cilantro with distinctly fishy undertones, and is called “fish mint” by the Vietnamese. It requires lots of moisture and prefers to be planted at the edge of a pond or stream.
