How to Cook White Rice is a simple explanation of how to cook rice perfectly every time. The instruction are simple and the rice is a dish that goes with virtually everything. Over half of the population of the world consume rice as part of a staple diet.
Rice can be prepared in a number of ways but I have always found this to be the easiest and most failsafe. This side dish can be cooked in advance and allowed to cool for dishes such as Egg Fried Rice. This is where the rice needs to have cooled before adding to a larger dish. However, hot fluffy rice is perfect for other dishes such as chillies. It doesn’t matter if its full blown Texas Chilli or vegetarian Zucchini Chilli, this rice fits the bill.
How to Cook White Rice includes rice’s such as long grain white, medium grain white and short grain white rice. I will load up the easiest recipes for sushi rice, brown rice and Jasmin rice shortly. They all have a different method to get the best out of ever grain. There are recipes on this site, I note for paella, basmati and wild rice from which the instructions are included.

How to Cook White Rice
Equipment
- 1 Saucepan with lid
Instructions
- Place a saucepan with the water and rice with a pinch of salt over a medium high heat and bring to a rolling simmer.1 cup rice, 2 cups water, 1 pinch salt
- Pop the lid on and reduce the heat to low and leave for 11-13 minutes until all of the water has been absorbed. Do not remove the lid at all.
- When the water has gone, remove from the heat but leave the lid on for a further 10 minutes to steam.
- Remove the lid and using a spatula or fork, gently fluff the rice to loosen. Serve
