The main staple food of Bangladeshi cuisine is rice and fish. The famous expression “mache bhate Bangali” which means “Bengali by fish and rice.” Apart from fish, an everyday meal consists of plain rice, served with a wide range of curries. Served with leafy greens, lentils, and mashed, braised and/or deep-fried vegetables as side dishes. The traditional dishes have strong aromatic flavours and often include eggs, potatoes, tomatoes and aubergines. A variety of spices and herbs, along with mustard oil and ghee, is used a lot in Bangladeshi cooking. Also a simple but popular recipe is Beef Curry. Served with plain naan or basmati rice for a spicy but divine meal.
