The ingredients of Guatemala cuisine are typical for Central America. They include corn, tomatoes, peppers, beans, plantains and tomatillos. There are several uniquely Guatemalan dishes including jocón, pepián, and hilachas together with several varieties of tamales.

Guatemala is a beautiful mountainous Central American country between Mexico, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador. A large number of Guatemalans are pure blooded Mayan with a culture and cuisine dating back centuries.

Like many of its neighbours, the cuisine has been influenced by European visitors. However, recipes such as jocón which is chicken in a tomatillo and cilantro(coriander) sauce survive. It has so much flavour for such a simple dish.
