Homemade Chili Sauce

Homemade Chili Sauce Recipe - TheRecipe.Website
Homemade chili sauce is a versatile and flavour-packed condiment that can elevate even the simplest of dishes. Unlike store-bought options, making your own allows you to control the heat level and the overall flavour profile, ensuring that it perfectly complements your taste preferences. Whether you enjoy mild warmth or a fiery kick, this sauce can be tailored to suit any palate.
One of the great benefits of homemade chili sauce is its natural ingredients. You have the freedom to avoid artificial preservatives, colouring, and additives often found in commercial sauces. By using fresh chilies, tomatoes, garlic, and onions, you can create a vibrant, all-natural sauce that’s bursting with flavour. The freshness of these ingredients also makes a noticeable difference in the final taste, giving you a sauce that feels wholesome and satisfying.
Chili sauce can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. One of the most popular uses is as a dip for snacks. Serve it with tortilla chips, crisps or even vegetable sticks for a quick and zesty snack. It’s also a brilliant topping for grilled meats such as chicken, beef or lamb. A drizzle over roasted vegetables can add an exciting twist to your meal, making even the healthiest dishes more appetising.
In addition to being a delicious accompaniment to everyday meals, chili sauce is perfect for barbeques. Imagine spreading it on burgers, hot dogs or grilled sausages for an extra layer of flavour. It can also be stirred into soups, stews or casseroles to enhance the richness of these comfort foods. A spoonful added to pasta sauces, curries or stir-fries can provide just the right amount of spice to transform an ordinary dish into something extraordinary.
For those who enjoy breakfast with a bit of heat, try serving chili sauce alongside eggs. It pairs wonderfully with scrambled eggs, omelettes or even as a spread on toast. You could also mix it into your baked beans for a spicy morning treat.
Basically, homemade chili sauce is an incredibly flexible condiment that adds depth and excitement to a wide range of meals. This sauce can be your secret weapon for boosting flavours and the joy of knowing that you made it yourself makes every bite even more satisfying!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Begin by washing the chilies and removing the stems. If you prefer a milder sauce, you can deseed some or all of the chilies.
    500 g red chilies
  • Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing them until soft and fragrant (about 3-4 minutes).
1 medium onion, 3 tbsp olive oil, 4 cloves garlic
  • Stir in the chopped tomatoes and chilies. Cook for about 5 minutes, allowing the tomatoes to soften.
    3 medium tomatoes
  • Add the sugar, vinegar, salt and water to the mixture. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat and allow it to cook gently for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
2 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp vinegar, salt, 1 cup water
  • Once the mixture has thickened, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool slightly.
  • Blend the mixture in a blender or use a hand blender until you achieve a smooth, consistent texture.
  • Taste and adjust the seasoning or sweetness, if necessary. If the sauce is too thick, you can add a bit more water and blend again to your desired consistency.
  • Pour the sauce into sterilised glass jars or bottles and allow it to cool completely before sealing.

It’s a lovely balance of spicy and sweet, and I love that I can make a big batch and store it in the fridge. It’s fantastic on everything, from sandwiches to grilled meats.

The flavour was good, but I found it a bit too thick for my liking. I added extra water when blending, and that helped. It’s a versatile sauce, and I’ve used it on burgers and as a dip.

I added it to my pasta sauce, and it took the dish to a whole new level. I also love that it doesn’t have any preservatives.
