Beef Pineapple Burger

The Beef Pineapple Burger offers a delicious blend of savoury and sweet, creating a flavour-packed experience that’s perfect for those looking to try something new. Combining the hearty taste of beef with the tropical sweetness of pineapple, this burger is a unique alternative to the standard beef burger. It’s a meal that brings a fun twist to the table, satisfying taste buds with every bite.
At the base of the Beef Pineapple Burger is a soft bun that holds everything together. This is followed by a crisp layer of fresh lettuce, providing a cool and crunchy contrast to the heavier ingredients above. Next, a generous dollop of spiced mayo dressing adds a bit of heat, ensuring that each bite has a little zing without being overpowering. This spicy mayo enhances the overall flavour while pairing beautifully with the beef.
The star of the dish is, of course, a thick, juicy beef burger patty. Cooked to perfection, the patty brings the rich, savoury notes that form the heart of the burger. Melting cheese, placed on top of the patty, adds a creamy and indulgent layer that balances the different textures and flavours.
However, what really sets this burger apart is the addition of pineapple rings. The sweet and slightly tangy pineapple is the ingredient that turns a regular beef burger into something extraordinary. Its juicy texture contrasts with the dense beef patty, offering a refreshing burst of sweetness with every bite.
Above the pineapple, a squirt of ketchup brings a familiar touch, adding a bit of moisture and tanginess to the mix. Pickles, with their sharp, tangy bite, further add to the overall complexity of the burger, cutting through the sweetness of the pineapple and balancing the richness of the beef and cheese.
Finally, the top half of the bun completes the stack, creating a meal that is a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, tangy, and savoury flavours. The Beef Pineapple Burger is ideal for adventurous eaters looking to enjoy something different, yet comforting in its familiarity. Whether enjoyed at a summer barbecue or as a treat during the week, this burger is sure to impress.

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties, making sure they are thick and slightly wider than the buns, as they will shrink during cooking.
500 g ground beef, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp pepper, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Heat a pan or grill over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until they reach your desired doneness (internal temperature should be at least 70°C for well-done). During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty to melt.
1 tbsp olive oil, 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • While the patties are cooking, grill the pineapple rings in the same pan or on the grill for 1-2 minutes per side, until they are caramelised and slightly golden.
    4 rings pineapple
  • In a small bowl, add the mayonnaise, paprika and chilli flakes and stir well to combine. Taste and adjust seasoning if required.
4 tbsp mayonnaise, ½ tsp paprika, ¼ tsp chilli flakes
  • Start by placing the bottom half of the burger bun on a plate and add the lettuce leaf. Spread 1 tablespoon of spiced mayo on top of the lettuce.
4 large burger buns, 4 leaves lettuce
  • Place the cooked beef patty with melted cheese on the mayo. Add the grilled pineapple ring on top of the patty and drizzle 1 tablespoon of ketchup over the pineapple.
    4 tbsp ketchup
  • Finally top with 2 pickle slices and the top half of the bun.
    8 slices pickles
  • Repeat for the remaining burgers and serve hot with chips or a side salad.

Notes

Tips for a Tasty Burger

  • Homemade Patties: Use 80/20 ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat) for juicy and flavourful patties.
  • Grill for Best Flavour: Grilling the beef patties and pineapple gives them a smoky, charred flavour, enhancing the overall taste of the burger.
  • Customise the Spice: Adjust the amount of chilli flakes in the spiced mayo to match your preferred heat level.

I was hesitant about pineapple on a beef burger, but this turned out to be a big win! The grilled pineapple added a delightful sweetness that perfectly complemented the savoury beef patty and melted cheese.

I needed a bit more tang, so I added extra pickles, and it was just perfect.

I appreciate the creativity of this recipe, and the burger was good, but the pineapple was a bit too sweet for my taste. I prefer my burgers on the savoury side, so I think I’ll skip the pineapple next time. However, the rest of the ingredients worked wonderfully together, especially the spiced mayo.

The spiced mayo brought just the right amount of heat. I’ll definitely be making this again.

The texture contrast between the crunchy lettuce and the soft bun was also a win.

The tangy sweetness of the pineapple with the juicy beef and melted cheese was a flavour explosion. Even my kids, who are picky eaters, loved it.
