Chicken Fried Steak without the chicken. Don’t worry this confused me as well. The name arose as you do the same procedure when deep frying chicken. Anyway this recipe produces a lovely juicy tenderised battered beef steak with gravy – what more could you want. Serve as a main dish with vegetables or fries and the amazing gravy.

Ingredients
For the meat
- 1 large eggs beaten
- 1/4 cup milk
- 6 ounce beef steak tenderised
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 5 tbsp All-purpose flour to dredge
- 1 pinch ground pepper to taste
- 1 pinch Salt to taste
For the gravy:
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 pinch Salt to taste
- 1 pinch ground pepper to taste
Instructions
- Beat the egg and milk together in a small bowl.1/4 cup milk, 1 large eggs
- Dip the steak into the egg mixture and coat with flour on both sides.6 ounce beef steak, 5 tbsp All-purpose flour
- Heat the butter and oil in a skillet over moderate heat and fry the steak until golden brown on both sides, about 5 minutes per side.2 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Season with salt and pepper and serve immediately.1 pinch ground pepper, 1 pinch Salt
- For the gravy, remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- Stir the flour into the drippings in the pan and cook for about 2 minutes.1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- Stir in the milk, salt, and pepper and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.1/2 cup milk, 1 pinch Salt, 1 pinch ground pepper
- Spoon the gravy over the steak and serve immediately.
