Orange Beef Stir Fry

When you have been ordering the same stir fry for ages try a different version in your own kitchen. Orange Beef Stir Fry is a lovely variation of the old stir fry classic. It’s full of flavour and the subtle orange flavour brings out the beef flavour. Serve as a main dish with noodles or rice for a new favourite. this recipe can be adjusted by adding sliced red chillies for that extra heat which I love.
Stir-fried orange beef is a delightful dish that brings a refreshing citrus twist to your dinner table without the need for a lengthy marinade. By incorporating fresh orange juice directly into the cooking process, this recipe offers a quick, vibrant, and flavorful meal perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients and Preparation
For this recipe, you’ll need thinly sliced beef, preferably flank or sirloin, a mix of colorful vegetables such as bell peppers, broccoli, and snap peas, and essential aromatics like garlic and ginger. The highlight of this dish is the sauce, made from freshly squeezed orange juice, soy sauce, and a touch of honey, creating a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors.
Cooking the Stir-Fry
Begin by prepping all your ingredients. Thinly slice the beef against the grain to ensure tenderness. Chop the vegetables into bite-sized pieces and mince the garlic and ginger. In a small bowl, mix together the orange juice, soy sauce, honey, and a bit of cornstarch, which will help thicken the sauce as it cooks.
Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat and add a couple of tablespoons of oil. Once the oil is hot, add the beef slices in a single layer. Stir-fry the beef for about 2-3 minutes until it is browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the beef from the wok and set it aside.
In the same wok, add a bit more oil if needed and toss in the garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, then add the vegetables. Stir-fry the vegetables for about 3-4 minutes until they are crisp-tender.
Return the beef to the wok and pour in the orange sauce. Stir everything together, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the beef and vegetables evenly. The fresh orange juice will reduce slightly, intensifying its flavor and creating a glossy finish.
Serving Suggestions
Serve the stir-fried orange beef over steamed rice or noodles, which will absorb the delicious sauce. Garnish with thinly sliced green onions and sesame seeds for added texture and flavor. This dish pairs wonderfully with a light, citrusy white wine like Sauvignon Blanc or a crisp, refreshing beer.
In summary, stir-fried orange beef is a quick, easy, and flavorful dish that brings a refreshing citrus twist to your dinner table. Its vibrant flavors and simplicity make it perfect for busy weeknights and sure to impress.

The fresh, tangy flavor of the orange juice complemented the savory beef beautifully. However must use fresh orange juice for a full impact.

What a pleasant surprise. Normally when you add fruit to a dish, it fades the flavours. This didn’t at all.
