Fettuccine with Lemon Sauce is one of those dishes that proves a satisfying pasta meal does not need to be complicated. It combines silky cream, rich butter, bright lemon and a subtle hint of lime to create a sauce that feels indulgent while still tasting fresh. However, there is an unexpected ingredient hiding beneath those familiar flavours: beef broth. It adds a gentle savoury depth that makes the sauce far more interesting than a simple cream and lemon combination.
The beauty of this dish comes from its balance. The butter and cream create a smooth, luxurious base, while the lemon juice cuts through the richness with a welcome sharpness. Meanwhile, the lemon and lime zest add fragrant citrus notes without making the sauce overly acidic. As a result, every mouthful feels creamy and comforting but never quite too heavy.
The preparation is wonderfully straightforward. First, the butter, cream and beef broth are gently simmered until the mixture reduces by roughly half. This step is important because it concentrates the flavours and gives the finished sauce enough body to cling to the pasta. Once reduced, the lemon juice and citrus zest go in, bringing the sauce to life with their fresh aroma.
The fettuccine should be cooked until al dente, meaning it still has a little firmness when you bite into it. This texture matters because the pasta continues cooking briefly when it meets the hot sauce. After draining, the fettuccine is added directly to the pan and tossed through the sauce for just 20 to 30 seconds.
That final toss is where the magic happens. The sauce coats the broad ribbons of fettuccine, filling the ridges and clinging beautifully to every strand. Therefore, it is worth resisting the temptation to cook the pasta until completely soft.
I particularly like serving this dish when I want something comforting without spending ages in the kitchen. It makes a lovely midweek dinner, yet the creamy appearance also gives it enough elegance for a relaxed dinner with friends. A simple green salad makes a refreshing companion, while some crusty bread is useful for collecting any sauce left on the plate.
Fettuccine with Lemon Sauce is also a great example of how a few carefully balanced ingredients can create something memorable. The richness of butter and cream, the savoury character of beef broth and the brightness of citrus work together surprisingly well. Ultimately, it is a creamy pasta dish with a fresh personality, and one that is easy enough to become a regular favourite.

A deliciously fresh flavoured pasta that was a pleasure to cook and eat.
Beautifully creamy. Keeping the pasta al dente made a real difference because it finished cooking in the sauce. Every strand was coated perfectly.
Excellent basic recipe. I enjoyed it as written, although I think some grilled chicken or prawns would make a fantastic addition for those wanting a more substantial meal.
A comforting bowl of pasta. The butter and cream make it wonderfully silky, while the citrus keeps everything fresh. It is simple cooking done very well.
Surprisingly elegant. This would be an excellent dish for a casual dinner party. It looks and tastes luxurious without requiring complicated cooking.
A definite keeper. It is quick, uncomplicated and absolutely delicious. The combination of creamy sauce, al dente pasta and fresh citrus makes this a dish I would happily serve again and again.
Very good, with one small change. I found the sauce slightly rich for my taste, so I served it with a crisp green salad. The combination worked beautifully.
Family favourite already. Everyone cleared their plates, which is always a good sign! The fettuccine held the sauce perfectly and the finished dish was wonderfully comforting.
So simple and satisfying. I loved how quickly this came together. The sauce was silky, rich and coated the fettuccine beautifully.
Really enjoyable. The sauce had plenty of flavour, although I added a little extra lemon juice because I prefer a stronger citrus taste. Otherwise, absolutely delicious.
Perfect comfort food. The sauce clings wonderfully to the fettuccine and has just the right mixture of richness and freshness. This has gone straight onto our regular dinner list.
Better than expected. I was initially worried that the lemon might make the cream taste sharp, but the flavours were beautifully balanced. The lime zest was a lovely touch too.
Fantastic midweek meal. It required very little preparation and tasted much more impressive than I expected. The citrus flavour was especially good.
Creamy without being boring. The lemon really lifts the sauce, while the beef broth adds something unexpected. It is a lovely change from traditional creamy pasta sauces.
Really good. The lemon gives the creamy sauce just enough brightness, while the beef broth adds a lovely savoury depth. This was a big hit with everyone at the table.
The beef broth is a clever addition. I would never have thought to combine it with lemon and cream, but it gives the sauce a wonderful depth. Definitely worth trying.
A lovely pasta dish. The combination of lemon and lime zest gives the sauce a fresh flavour that stops the cream from becoming too heavy. I will definitely make this again.
Quick and delicious. This is exactly the sort of recipe I enjoy after a busy day. There are not many ingredients, but they create plenty of flavour.
Lovely flavour combination. I particularly enjoyed the hint of lime alongside the lemon. Next time I may add some freshly cracked black pepper for a little extra bite.
Restaurant-quality flavour at home. The sauce was smooth, glossy and packed with flavour. I particularly liked the savoury note underneath the bright citrus.
Really tasty recipe. I added a little extra lemon zest because I love citrus flavours. The result was fresh, creamy and full of character.
Very tasty. I was unsure about using beef broth with lemon and cream, but it actually works remarkably well. I might use slightly less broth next time for an even creamier sauce.
