Honey and Mustard Baked Gammon

Honey and Mustard Baked Gammon Recipe - TheRecipe.Website
This has to be one of my favourite dishes for so many reasons. The comforting flavours of a hearty British meal like Honey and Mustard Baked Gammon. This traditional fare is known for its rich, savoury flavour and succulent texture. However adding a lovely crispy glaze takes it to new heights with a crackling, caramelised coating. Here’s how you can create this culinary masterpiece at home, along with some delightful pairing suggestions.
The Perfect Crispy Glaze
Achieving the perfect crispy glaze on gammon requires a careful balance of sweet and savoury. Begin by selecting a quality gammon joint, ideally from your local butcher. Simmer the gammon in a pot of water infused with aromatic vegetables and spices – think onions, cloves, bay leaves, and black peppercorns. This step ensures the meat remains tender and flavourful.
Once the gammon is tender, it’s time for the glaze. A classic combination includes honey, mustard and brown sugar. For a modern twist, you might add a splash of maple syrup or a hint of chilli for a subtle kick. Brush the glaze generously over the gammon and place it in a hot oven. Roast until the glaze bubbles and crisps up, forming a delicious, sticky crust.
Serving Suggestions
Gammon with a crispy glaze pairs beautifully with a variety of side dishes. For a traditional accompaniment, serve with roasted potatoes and steamed green vegetables such as broccoli or green beans. A creamy potato gratin or buttery mashed potatoes also complement the richness of the gammon.
To cut through the sweetness of the glaze, consider a tangy red cabbage slaw or a crisp apple and fennel salad. These sides provide a refreshing contrast and add a burst of colour to your plate.
For a festive twist, serve your gammon with spiced red cabbage and a dollop of cranberry sauce. The tartness of the cranberry pairs wonderfully with the caramelised glaze, creating a symphony of flavours that is sure to impress.
Whether for a Sunday roast or a special occasion, Honey and Mustard Baked Gammon with a crispy glaze is a dish that brings joy to the table. Its combination of sweet and savoury, paired with thoughtful sides, ensures a memorable dining experience. Enjoy the process of preparing this delicious meal and, most importantly, the pleasure of sharing it with loved ones.
