Johns Garlic Rice

This is one of those recipes that you would not think of but when you have been shown it, BINGO. Johns Garlic Rice is named after an old school friend who perfected the way of doing the least amount possible!! This dish has an amazing flavour an aroma that sets a prelude for the meal itself. I always serve this as a side dish however have also served it as a main dish. Just add a little meat or vegetables to the mix. Served with Indian Butter Chicken,  Chilli Chicken or Teriyaki Chicken. These chicken dishes have the strength of flavour that go so well with the rice. I put in quite a bot of garlic but you can tone it down to how you like it.
Garlic rice is a simple yet incredibly flavourful dish that has captured the hearts and taste buds of people around the world. Known for its aromatic and savory profile, garlic rice is a versatile side dish that complements a variety of main courses. Its origins are deeply rooted in Filipino cuisine, where it is commonly referred to as “sinangag.” However, its appeal has transcended cultural boundaries, making it a beloved dish in many households globally.
The magic of garlic rice lies in its simplicity. The core ingredients are day-old rice, garlic, oil, and salt. This uncomplicated combination allows the rich, pungent flavour of garlic to shine through, transforming plain rice into a delightful culinary experience. The key to perfect garlic rice is using leftover rice, which is drier and ensures a non-sticky, fluffy texture.
Garlic rice is incredibly versatile and pairs beautifully with a wide range of dishes. Serve it alongside grilled meats, seafood, or vegetables for a complete meal. It also makes an excellent base for fried rice, allowing you to add in proteins and vegetables for a more substantial dish.
Garlic rice is a testament to how a few simple ingredients can create a dish that’s both comforting and bursting with flavor. Its aromatic essence and savory taste make it a perfect side dish for any meal, bringing a touch of Filipino tradition to your table. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or a beginner in the kitchen, garlic rice is an easy and rewarding recipe to master. Enjoy this flavorful staple and let its rich aroma fill your home.
