Braised Peas with Prosciutto

Braised Peas with Prosciutto is one of my favourite side dishes. The mixture of the sweet tender peas and the salty prosciutto combine perfectly. I have actually served these with just baked potatoes and what a success: a simple main dish with no effort. This side dish fits in with a Simple Roast TurkeyLow Fat Roast Potatoes and Spiced Honey Coated Carrots. It is a perfect meal especially when you add Home made Yorkshire Puddings. With so many side dish recipes where you have to keep an eye on, this recipe is so easy. 20 out of the 30 minutes is spent with it just being braised.  No action required.

I serve this when I cook roast pork for an additional flavourless hit. Works every time

I served it alongside some roasted lamb, and it was the perfect side – simple, but full of character.

The chicken broth brings everything together with a lovely richness. It’s a refined dish that still feels homey – perfect for a Sunday family meal.

I tried braised peas and prosciutto for the first time, and I was blown away by how such a simple dish could pack so much flavour.

The bright green peas give such a fresh, vibrant taste, and the prosciutto adds a salty bite that elevates the entire experience. It’s light yet satisfying, and the butter and onions provide just the right amount of richness. It’s become a staple at my dinner table when I want something seasonal and elegant.

It’s such a classic dish, and every bite brings back memories of simple yet flavourful meals from countryside trattorias. The quality of ingredients really matters here – fresh peas, good prosciutto, and real butter make all the difference.

A great side dish that complements anything from roasted chicken to grilled fish.

The soft, buttery peas are beautifully enhanced by the cured prosciutto, which adds a savoury depth I didn’t expect from such a minimal ingredient list.

The sweetness of the peas combined with the saltiness of the prosciutto is absolute perfection. It’s not too heavy, but it still feels indulgent thanks to the butter and rich chicken broth.

I was worried it might be too salty with the prosciutto, but the peas mellow everything out perfectly. The butter and broth make the whole dish creamy and luxurious.

The peas are tender but not mushy, and the prosciutto adds just the right amount of saltiness without overpowering the natural flavours. The onions and broth give it a subtle sweetness, and the pepper adds a nice finishing kick.
