As stated above, Tartar sauce, a beloved accompaniment to fried fish and other seafood, is a culinary staple that never fails to elevate a dish. Simple Tartar Sauce offers a refreshing twist on this classic condiment, blending tangy, savoury, and herbaceous notes into a creamy delight. Its straightforward preparation and versatile flavour profile make it an essential recipe for any home cook looking to enhance their meals.
At the heart of Simple Tartar Sauce is mayonnaise, the creamy base that holds everything together. To this, a splash of lemon juice adds brightness, while Worcestershire sauce introduces a subtle umami depth. The inclusion of finely chopped dill pickles and capers provides a delightful tang and crunch, ensuring a balance of textures and tastes. Fresh or dried dill, finely chopped, enhances the sauce with its fragrant, slightly anise-like flavour, complementing the other ingredients beautifully.
Preparation is a breeze, requiring just a few minutes of mixing. Once combined, the mixture transforms into a luscious, smooth sauce. A pinch of salt and a grind of black pepper help fine-tune the flavours to personal preference. For the best results, allow the sauce to rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. This resting time gives the ingredients a chance to meld, creating a harmonious blend of tastes.
Simple Tartar Sauce is a versatile accompaniment that shines alongside battered fish, seafood, or even as a dipping sauce for chips and vegetables. Its homemade charm and fresh ingredients outshine store-bought versions, offering a flavour profile that is truly customisable. Stored in an airtight container in the fridge, this sauce keeps for up to a week, ensuring you can enjoy its deliciousness across multiple meals.

If your having any sort of battered fish then you need your own tartar sauce. I pimp mine up with extra capers.
