A friend made this for us one evening and since then I have made countless. Each one with different seafood on top depending what was on sale. This Super Seafood Pizza promises to tickle your taste buds with each savoury bite. This delectable dish combines the briny freshness of seafood with the rich flavours of cheese and a savoury sauce base, creating a symphony of flavours that is sure to please even the most discerning palates.
Seafood Selection:
When it comes to selecting seafood for your pizza, the options are as abundant as the ocean itself. Consider incorporating succulent shrimp, tender calamari rings, plump mussels, or sweet meaty chunks of lobster or crab. Each seafood selection brings its own unique texture and flavour profile to the pizza, adding depth and complexity to every slice.
Cheese Choices:
To complement the seafood’s flavours, opt for a combination of cheeses that offer both creaminess and tanginess. Mozzarella serves as the classic base, providing a gooey, melty texture that binds the toppings together. Additionally, consider adding tangy goat cheese or creamy ricotta for a contrast that enhances the overall flavour profile. For an extra indulgent touch, sprinkle some grated Parmesan or Pecorino Romano over the top before baking to add a salty, nutty richness.
Sauce Base:
The sauce base is the foundation upon which the flavours of the seafood pizza are built. For a seafood-inspired twist, consider using a garlic-infused white sauce or a tangy marinara sauce with a hint of seafood stock for added depth. Alternatively, a pesto sauce infused with basil and pine nuts can provide a fresh, herbaceous note that complements the seafood beautifully.
Assembly and Baking:
To assemble your seafood pizza, spread the chosen sauce base evenly over the pizza dough, leaving a border around the edges. Arrange the seafood toppings generously over the sauce, ensuring an even distribution across the pizza. Sprinkle the selected cheeses over the seafood, covering the toppings completely.
Pairing: Serve this seafood pizza with a crisp and refreshing white wine. A Pinot Grigio or a Sauvignon Blanc to complement the flavours of the seafood and the garlic white sauce.
A seafood pizza is a culinary delight combining the fresh flavours of the ocean with the comforting familiarity of pizza. With your selection of seafood, cheeses and sauce base, you can create any combination you want. The sky or in this case the ocean is your canvas. Every single slice of pizza will vanish and you will crave for more.
