Cod has to be one of the most well known fish in the oceans. Whenever we have fish and chips it is often cod and chips, Fish cakes include it, Fish fingers include it. The list goes on. A popular mild-flavoured saltwater fish mainly found in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. It’s white flesh is succulent, flaky, firm and lean.

It used to be plentiful and cheap and became considered of less quality than other fish. Always try and buy line caught or farmed fish and not trawled fish. Trawling damages the sea bed for many species that are discarded when caught in the vast nets.

The meat is included in New England Fish Stew, Mums Fish Pie and covered in batter for the delicious Fish and Chips. When buying whole check the skin is shiny clean skin and clear eyes.
